Block and Estate Management is about the minutia done well: the role of a Managing Agent is technical, administrative, practical and political. It takes joined up thinking from a multi-disciplined team with one eye on the strategic long term plan and with sufficient resource to react to whatever is necessary day-to-day: the skills that block and estate management spans are: politics, building pathology, finance, legal knowhow and of course customer service too.

As a leading Managing Agent, we are a one-stop-property shop. We understand that our role is sometimes signposting Clients to get expert advice and supporting them to interpret such advice and make decisions. We support and help owners reach out to government and other local services where matters are beyond our day-to-day block management remit.

History of Upton Park

Upton Gardens is situated in east London, in the borough of Newham. It is 8.6 miles from the centre of London. The area was first recorded in 1203 as Hupinton, then in 1290 as Hopton and in 1485 as Upton. The name originates from the Old English words "upp" and "tun", meaning higher farmstead. 
From the 17th century onwards, Upton was a wealthy hamlet. One of its oldest surviving buildings is the Old Spotted Dog. It was thought to once have been a hunting lodge for King Henry VIII, (r. 1509-1547). The building was converted into a pub in the 19th century. For the last decade, it has been abandoned. However, it is on England's Heritage at Risk register. Planning permission and listed building consent have been secured for the repair and re-use of the building as pub, restaurant and hotel. 
During the reign of Queen Victoria, (1837-1901), from the 1870s onwards, the pretty hamlet began to disappear, and was replaced with extensive terraced houses. Fields south-east of Upton were re-developed in the mid 1880s, and the new estate was called Upton Park.  
In 1877, Upton Park station was opened by the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway. In 1902, the District Line service began; and in 1936, the Metropolitan Line followed. This is the line we know today as the Hammersmith & City Line. Currently, Upton Park Underground station is on the District Line and Hammersmith & City Line.

I went with my family to The Who Shop. It was fascinating to see all the stars that portrayed Dr Who over the years, as well as his assistants, and arch enemies! I couldn't resist buying a Dr Who jigsaw puzzle, which I'm sure will be fun to do. 
 

Things to do in Upton Park

The Who Shop, 39-41 Barking Road, Upton Park, London, E6, is dedicated to Dr Who. At the museum, visitors can step into screen-used Tardis and can view 120 different props, costumes and artefacts, going back to 1964. Behind the scenes, visitors have the chance to see original scripts, floor plans and production documents, and a photo wall documenting all the stars of the show. The shop has a good deal of memorabilia, including autographs, books and magazines, Christmas gifts, clothing, DVD, blue ray and audio, homeware and gifts, models and toys and puzzles and games. The Who Shop regularly host signing events in store with actors and creatives from Doctor Who, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures and more. Guests include John Barrowman, Tom Baker, Elizabeth Sladen, Jon Pertwee, David Morrisey and many more.
