Block and Estate Management is about the minutia done well: the role of a Managing Agent is technical, administrative, practical and political. It takes joined up thinking from a multi-disciplined team with one eye on the strategic long term plan and with sufficient resource to react to whatever is necessary day-to-day: the skills that block and estate management spans are: politics, building pathology, finance, legal knowhow and of course customer service too.

As a leading Managing Agent, we are a one-stop-property shop. We understand that our role is sometimes signposting Clients to get expert advice and supporting them to interpret such advice and make decisions. We support and help owners reach out to government and other local services where matters are beyond our day-to-day block management remit.

History of Edgware Road

Edgware Road is situated inner west of London, in the borough of Westminster. It is 3.1 miles from the centre of London. Before the Romans, today's Edgware Road began as an ancient trackway, within the Great Middlesex Forest. In Roman times, from AD 43-410, Britannia was a province of the Roman Empire. Roads were originally designed for military use, created by the Roman Army. Edgware Road is one example, as the Romans incorporated its original ancient track, into Watling Street. Out of interest, it runs for 10 miles in an almost perfectly straight line.
In 1711, the road was improved by the Edgware-Kilburn turnpike trust: established by an act of Parliament, that granted powers to collect a road toll, for the upkeep of the road. Local inns - some of which still exist - functioned as stops for coaches.
Huguenots were French Protestants who fled from persecution by Roman Catholics. England was the ideal place to seek refuge, as a Protestant nation in the 18th century, and welcomed such refugees, as part of the skilled workforce. In the Georgian era, many Huguenot refugees settled in Edgware Road.
In 1863, during the Victorian period, a major breakthrough for London, was that the world's first underground railway was opened. In the same year, Edgware Road was opened as part of the Metropolitan Railway; and was situated between Paddington and Farringdon. Today, there are two Underground stations in close proximity, both named Edgware Road: one is on the Bakerloo Line, and the other is on the Hammersmith & City, Circle and District Lines.  
In the late 19th century, there was a period of increased trade with the Ottoman Empire, and the area subsequently attracted Arab migrants. In the 1950s, the trend continued, as Egyptians settled in Edgware Road. The Lebanese Civil War, (1975-1990), the overthrow of the Shah of Iran, (1979), and the Algerian Civil War, (1991-2002), brought more Middle Eastern people to the area. At the southernmost part of Edgware Road, there are a high concentration of Arabs; and there are many Lebanese restaurants and shisha cafes, along the street. The Odeon cinema often shows films in Arabic.
Edgware Road has been referred to as "Little Beirut" or "Little Cairo". It remains to this day a busy area, with a variety of cultures, languages and ethnicities: East meets West.

I was pleased to have hired a private boat from GoBoat, in the summer. I was taught how to navigate the boat, and wanted to be captain. So, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip with a few friends, along the Regent's Canal. We saw some great sights, all the way from Paddington Basin to London Zoo. Just after the zoo, I very much enjoyed seeing the Floating Chinese restaurant.
 

Things to do in Edgware Road

GoBoat, Merchant Square, London, W2, is a great opportunity to hire a private boat, for a leisurly ride along the Regent's Canal. No license or prior boating knowledge is required. The customer is taught how to steer the boat, and rules of the water. Each electric boat fits 8 people. The route includes Paddington Basin, Little Venice, Maida Hill Tunnel, Regent's Park, London Zoo and Camden Lock. 
 

Edgware Road - Cultural Scene

Satay House Malaysian Restaurant, 13 Sale Place, Tyburnia, London, W2, is situated near Edgware Road. The restaurant specialises in traditional, authentic food. Starters include chargrilled chicken, lamb, or vegetable and tofu satay, prawn and fish crackers, vegetable spring rolls, battered squid, battered prawns, crunchy anchovies with chilli peanuts, tofu filled with vegetables and fried chicken wings. Mains feature variations on rice and noodle dishes, served with sides and bread. There are a good choice of lamb, chicken, beef, seafood, egg and vegetable dishes. There are plenty of Malaysian desserts. Group menus are offered, for 10 guests or more. Drinks include Malaysian tea, chocolate drinks, coffee, soft drinks, champagne, sparkling wine, rose, white wine, red wine, spirits, liquers and beer.
