We support and help owners reach out to government and other local services where matters are beyond our day-to-day block management remit.

History of Chadwell Heath

Chadwell Heath is in east London, on the boundary of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the London Borough of Redbridge. It is situated 12 miles from central London.
In 1254, during the reign of King Henry III, (r.1216-1272), the name Chaudewell was recorded. This means "the cold spring". The name was first given to a settlement on the Barking (later Ilford) side of the ancient boundary between Dagenham and Barking, and it was also known as Chadwell Street. The "Street" was the older meaning of a hamlet. 
In the 17th century, the Blackheath Common in Dagenham parish was given another name, Chadwell Heath. The settlements then merged: thus Chadwell Street was replaced with the name Chadwell Heath. 
In 1864, during the reign of Queen Victoria, (r.1837-1901), Chadwell Heath railway station was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway. It was the "end of the line" for both the London tram system, and later the electric trolley bus service from Aldgate.
From 1900 onwards, suburban growth accelerated until World War I, (1914-1918); and then increased after the war. 
The area suffered severe bombing during World War II, (1939-1945). One horrific example was that a V2 rocket landed on Blackbush Avenue. Several people were killed, and windows were blown out for half a mile around. The council replaced the windows, with more modern frames.
Chadwell Heath's population has increased rapidly since the 19th century. In 1881, it was estimated that there were 587 people in the area. The 2011 census showed a total population of 24,278.

I had a great time with my family, at Golf Kingdom. It was fun to try moby golf, and then foot golf, which was unusual. It was nice to have pizza and drinks afterwards. 
 

 

Things to do in Chadwell Heath

Golf Kingdom, Whalebone Lane North, Dagenham, Romford, RM6, is an 18 hole golf course, for all ages. Moby golf has a 60 metre lagoon, an 8 metre waterfall, and a legendary model of the whale, Moby Dick. This is great family fun. Follow the course along the lagoon, where a 24 ft. whale ship is berthed, putt the ball through the mouth of Moby, and watch out for Captain Ahab in the cave! Many successful birthday parties and corporate events are also held here. There is foot golf, and this centre is the first of its kind, in Britain. The rules are, that a football is kicked into an oversized golf hole. The player with the fewest shots over the 18 holes wins. This is perfect for friends or family. There are special party offers, wtih golf rounds, followed by pizza and drinks.
 

Chadwell Heath - Cultural Scene

Casa Italiana, 19a High Road, Chadqell Heath, is a classic Italian restaurant. Starters include seafood, salads, vegetarian dishes, soup, bruschetta and garlic bread with cheese. Mains include steak, lamb, chicken, salad and pasta dishes. There is a good selection of pizzas. Side dishes include vegetables and chips. Desserts include cheeses, apple pie, ice cream and sorbet, and chocolate cake. There is a children's menu. Drinks include beer, cider, wine, soft drinks and coffee.
